AVL Board Officers Appointed

Fletcher, NC – The Asheville Regional Airport Authority (ARAA) Board elected officers during its regularly scheduled meeting this month.

David Hillier will continue serving as Chairman of the ARAA Board, a position he has held since January, 2008. Hillier is an attorney working primarily in the areas of bankruptcy and financial distress. He served as president of the local (500+ lawyers) Bar Association, and is recipient of the prestigious Centennial Award for Outstanding Community Service from the State of North Carolina Bar Association.

“It is an honor to serve as Chairman of the Asheville Regional Airport Authority Board,” said Hillier. “I look forward to working with the Board and staff to continually improve the facilities and services of the airport.”

David Gantt, a board member since 2004, will retain his role as Vice Chairman. Gantt is partner at David Gantt Law Office in Asheville. He currently serves as Chairman of the Buncombe County Commission, where he has been a member for 14 years. Gantt also serves on the Chamber of Commerce Board, NC Employment Security Commission, and Mountain Resource Commission.

Jeffrey Piccirillo was elected Secretary/Treasurer, a position formerly held by Chuck McGrady. Piccirillo has served on the Authority Board since August, 2008. He is the Executive Food and Beverage Director at The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa and has more than 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry¬¬. He is currently a member of Leadership Asheville, the AB-Tech Hospitality Advisory Board, and several other community organizations.

All three individuals will serve in their respective capacities for a two-year term.

The ARAA Board has overall financial and policy-making responsibility for the airport and is comprised of seven members. Three Airport Authority members are appointed by the Asheville City Council, three by Buncombe County Board of Commissioners, and the seventh is appointed by the six as the At-Large member from Buncombe or Henderson County. Authority meetings are currently held on the second Friday of the month and are open to the public.
