Please read through the below information carefully prior to registration.  On-line registration is now CLOSED.  You may still register for this event at packet pick on Friday, September 20 from 4-7pm at Biltmore Square Mall, or the morning of the event at the airport.

Early Bird through August 9 – $25

August 10 – September 19 – $30

September 20 & 21 (walk-up) – $40

Refunds/Substitutions

There will be no refund of fees. Race will take place, rain or shine. Proceeds in excess of event costs will be donated to aviation education.

Packet Pick-Up

It is strongly encouraged that racers pick up their race packets the evening before the event. Packet/t-shirt pick up will take place:

When? Friday, September 20, 4–7pm

Where? Biltmore Square Mall, 800 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC, 28806

Use any entrance and make your way to the center of the mall near Davis Home Furniture Store.  (The closest entrance is at the back of the mall to the left of the Cinebarre movie theater.)

Packets may be picked up on behalf of other racers; however, if a racer did not complete a liability waiver on-line during registration, their packet may not be picked up by someone else.

IF YOU MUST CHECK IN FOR THE RACE THE MORNING OF THE EVENT:  A race registration and check-in station will be open for a limited time the morning of the event from 7am-8:15am, and will be located at the event site. Please allow time for parking and shuttling/walking to the event site. Lines could be long, so please plan accordingly.

Race Shirts

All who registered by August 16 are guaranteed a race t-shirt in the size ordered. Those who registered after August 16 will receive t-shirts on a first-come, first-served basis, while sizes and supplies last.  We anticipate that most or all t-shirts will be distributed at packet pick-up the evening before the event, and only a limited quantity of extra t-shirts will be ordered.

Timing

The Asheville Regional Airport Runway 5K will utilize electronic timing. Results will be posted on this web site by September 22, and at www.gloryhoundevents.com.

Walkers, Wanderers, Meanderers…

People of all ages, ability and motivation are invited to participate! However, the runway portion of the 5K will have a time limit (40 minutes, with some flexibility depending upon flight schedule). If participants are still on the runway near the cut-off time, very friendly airport folk will zip up beside you in official-looking airport vehicles and give you instructions, or direct you to an alternate exit from the course.

Safety

No pets, no bikes, no in-line skates, no roller skates, and no wheeled vehicles will be allowed on the course, other than those used by disabled racers and jogging strollers. For the safety of all, those using jogging strollers will be asked to start the race in the back of the pack.  Also, in accordance with RRCA Guidelines, the use of headphones is discouraged.

Because the course takes place within a secure area of the airport, public safety officers will be on hand to ensure the area remains secure, to monitor first aid needs, and to direct traffic. Please follow the direction of all safety officers.

UNIQUE TO A RACE ON A RUNWAY – we must keep the airfield clear of any debris.  Therefore, there will be no water stations, and you will not be allowed to carry water bottles onto the runway or taxiway (hydro packs – such as Camelbacks – that you wear like a backpack will be permitted).  Please hydrate well before the race, and there will be plenty of water and snacks available at the finish line.

Course

The course begins and ends near Hangar #6 on a ramp adjacent to the runway. Runners will run the full length of the runway and even a portion of the taxiway. There will be plenty of space for spectators and family members to cheer – and we hope to have a crowd!

After the Finish

We will have an awards ceremony as soon as possible after the event.  There will be general aviation aircraft on display, so meander and take pictures until the awards!  And remember … one lucky adult racer will win the GRAND PRIZE – a $500 airline gift certificate!  (You could even come in LAST place in the race, and still win this awesome prize!)

Also – don't forget to sign up for a "leaf flight" with the WNC Pilots Association – just $40 for adults and $15 for kids.  Visit their table near the event tent to sign up or for more information.

Driving Directions

Asheville Regional Airport is located off I-26 on NC Highway 280, also known as Airport Road. The physical address is 61 Terminal Drive, Fletcher, NC, 28732. The event will be held on the north end of the airport, in the general aviation area. Parking will be located in the lowest lot in front of the airport terminal – watch for event parking signage and attendants.  (It is best to enter the airport at the light at the intersection of Airport Road and Fanning Bridge Road.  Event parking will be immediately on the left after entering the airport campus.)

From Asheville, follow I-40 West to I-26 East. Take exit 40 and turn right from the exit ramp onto Airport Road. The airport entrance will be on the right at the light just past the terminal.

From Hendersonville, follow I-26 West. Take exit 40 and turn left from the exit ramp onto Airport Road. The airport entrance will be on the right at the light just past the terminal.
