Tropical Storm Helene has impacted the airport. Below are some of the questions we are receiving:

Relief flights are coming to the airport.  Can I come to the airport to receive supplies, such as water and food?  No – DO NOT come to the airport.  The airport is the gateway for flights to arrive, and supplies are unloaded and trucked to distribution points throughout the region. Emergency agencies are coordinating these efforts and will communicate distribution locations through their communication channels.

Are commercial flights operating/is the airport open?  Yes. Commercial flights with American, Allegiant, Delta and United are operating.  (Sun Country will operate its flights through Sunday, October 6, 2024, at which time their season will end.)  Passengers should contact their airline for the most up-to-date information about their specific flight status before coming to the airport.  Airline contact info>

Can I check flight status on the airport’s website?  No. Flight schedule information on the airport’s website is not yet updating, due to the internet issues in the region.  Again, check flight status with your airline for accurate flight status information.

Are the roads clear to the airport?  We do not have real-time road information available for all routes to and from the airport.  The roads immediately surrounding the airport are clear. You can also check this website: www.drivenc.gov

Did parking lots flood?  Are cars ok?   AVL customers who traveled pre-storm and have not been able to return to the airport since, should not worry. No parking lots flooded, and cars are okay. Additionally, if you parked at AVL before 8 p.m. on Sept. 26, 2024, all fees incurred during the storm and recovery will be waived. Please note, customers will need to talk to a parking attendant to get the fees waived. Please press the call/help button for assistance if an attendant is not present.

Is ground transportation available?   Yes, ground transportation is available; be aware that connectivity issues may make it difficult to use ride apps or make phone calls. Travelers can pre-arrange their rides, make pick-up arrangements with friends or family, or stop by the Guest Services desk in Baggage Claim and we will assist if possible.

Can I rent a car? Can I return a rental car?  Yes, rental cars should be available, especially if you have pre-booked. Please note that rental car companies are operating from 8am until after the last arrival each evening, and walk-up rentals can be accommodated if cars are available. The rental car providers at AVL are:

Also, yes, rental cars can be returned to the airport.

A NOTE ABOUT GENERAL AVIATION FLIGHTS FOR RELIEF EFFORTS

Thank you to all of the generous general aviation pilots who have been coming to the airport to deliver relief supplies. To ensure safe and efficient operations, including smooth arrival of military and private aircraft involved in relief missions, the FAA has issued a temporary flight restriction in Western North Carolina. The state, along with FEMA, have established a process for general aviation pilots to obtain pre-clearance for landing at AVL. For details, pilots can check the Notice to Air Missions.

MEDIA

Please follow the airport's Facebook page for updates.  We will return phone calls as soon as we can, but connectivity is unreliable at this time.  Please check back here for news releases, announcements about news conferences or other pertinent information for the media.
