Tropical Storm Helene Impacts — FAQ
Can I come to the airport to receive supplies, such as water and food? No – the airport is not a distribution site. The airport is the gateway for flights to arrive, and supplies are unloaded and trucked to distribution points throughout the region. Emergency agencies are coordinating these efforts and will communicate distribution locations through their communication channels.
Are commercial flights operating/is the airport open? Yes. Commercial flights with American, Allegiant, Delta and United are operating. Passengers should contact their airline for the most up-to-date information about their specific flight status before coming to the airport. Airline contact info>
Can I check flight status on the airport’s website? Yes, however, we always advise that passengers check flight status with their specific airline for the most up-to-date flight status information.
Are the roads clear to the airport? We do not have real-time road information available for all routes to and from the airport. The roads immediately surrounding the airport are clear. You can also check this website: www.drivenc.gov
Did parking lots flood? Are cars ok? AVL customers who traveled pre-storm and have not been able to return to the airport since, should not worry. No parking lots flooded, and cars are okay. If a customer parked before 8pm, 9/26/24 and could not retrieve their car on the planned return date due to impacts from Helene, additional fees due to storm impact will be waived. Customers should speak to a parking attendant prior to exiting and have their flight itinerary available.
Is ground transportation available? Yes, ground transportation is available and has somewhat stabilized; however, we have seen a reduction in the number of drivers operating at this time. Please be aware, and plan accordingly. Our guest services team, located in baggage claim, can assist passengers, if needed.
Can I rent a car? Yes, rental cars should be available, especially if you have pre-booked. Please note that rental car companies are operating from 8am until after the last arrival each evening, and walk-up rentals can be accommodated if cars are available. The rental car providers at AVL are:
