(Asheville, N.C.) Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is pleased to welcome nonstop service on United to Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. (IAD). The inaugural flight for the twice-daily route kicked off on February 14, 2019, with daily departures at 6am and 2:45pm.
This new addition to AVL's route map enhances Western North Carolina's global connectivity. Air travelers now have nonstop, daily access to a major international hub in Washington, D.C. - making this new route a win for business and vacation travelers alike. IAD offers a host of both domestic and international connections, serving as a gateway to European and Asian destinations.
"Our community has asked for the addition of a daily nonstop route to Washington, D.C. for many years," said Lew Bleiweis, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority. "From Dulles International Airport, air travelers can connect to destinations around the globe. This route also makes Asheville more accessible to domestic and international travelers, opening the region to more opportunities for business, tourism and convention air travel."
"We are excited to offer our customers two new reasons to choose United when planning travel between Asheville and Washington, D.C.," said Ankit Gupta, United's Vice President of Network Planning and Scheduling. "Our new nonstop services will offer our customers multiple opportunities to conveniently connect to hundreds of domestic and international flights at our Washington, D.C. hub."
United's inaugural flight featured a ceremonial celebration at AVL. United and AVL executives shared remarks highlighting the significance of the new route as passengers enjoyed cake, a ribbon cutting at the gate and water arches as the plane arrived at the gate.
