Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) will open a new temporary gate area next week, for use for approximately two years while the airport is undergoing expansion.
The temporary gate area is a modular building, adjacent to the south end of the terminal, and will seat 200+ passengers as they await boarding. This gate area has restrooms, vending and soon, a grab and go concession area and bar will be added for passenger use.
Passengers will board their aircraft by exiting this gate area to an outdoor covered walkway that leads to parked planes.
This temporary addition is necessary in order to move forward with the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken at AVL. The airport will break ground on construction of a new terminal in August, at which time a special webpage will be launched to highlight the details of the project and to offer opportunities for the community to engage.
With six airlines that serve 26 unique airport destinations, Asheville Regional Airport is the third busiest airport in North Carolina and has been one of the fastest growing airports in the country for more than seven years. For more information, visit flyavl.com.
